STEM enrichment program opportunity for upcoming 6th - 10th graders


The GEMS Program at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) in San Antonio, Texas, provides middle school and high school students with the opportunity to explore new concepts and participate in hands-on lab experiments and activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) topics. Students work with college students, educators, scientists, and engineers and participate in inquiry-based, hands-on lab experiments and activities, based on current USAISR research initiatives.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Have an interest in STEM education or STEM careers
  2. Entering 6th through 10th grade in Fall of 2017
  3. Be able to work in a team of other middle school and high school students
  4. Complete the GEMS Student online application
  5. Commit to one full one-week summer program between Jun 12-Jul 14
  6. Demonstrate professional behavior
  7. Stipends are awarded for full-participation
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen
  9. Provide personal transportation and lodging (transportation and lodging are not provided)
