2010 NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award to Chawanna Bethany Chambers
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has awarded the 2010 NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award to Chawanna Bethany Chambers from Henry Metzger Middle School.
Chambers is one of six recipients of this award. The award is for practicing pre-K to university level literacy educators of color who are in the first five years of a paid teaching career and who aspire to build a career in literacy education.
Chambers attended a three-day NCTE Leadership Development Institute in July that helps prepare recipients to carry out an individual leadership project in literacy education to benefit their school. At the institute, Chambers met with other early career literacy educators of color, NCTE leaders, and state level affiliate leaders to learn more about trends in the professional community, leadership strategies, and NCTE.
