You can check this section to find complete lists of the sight words we have studied in class. It will be updated each six weeks to reflect the specific words we have studied during that time. You can check the homework section to find the sights words we study weekly. Sight words are important to learn as the are usually the words in texts that cannot be sounded-out. For instance, the word said. You just have to know it! Sight words are the words that are instantly recognizable. Therefore, when studying/practicing sight words, it is important that they can be recognized in and out of text. To help students practice sight words in texts, you can make it a game of word hunt. Simply choose a book and ask your child to look for the words you are practicing. Repetitive readings are also great. In this way students see sight words numerous times in texts, which will increase their chances of retaining the words.
